The Well-Fed Writer? Well, The Well-Fed Writer is seven years old and overdue for an overhaul. I’ll be combining the content of TWFW: and TWFW: Back For Seconds into one volume, and updating it in the process. Here’s where you might come in… I’m looking for success stories in several arenas: 1) General Success Stories (including unusual niches): Approx. 600-900 words. Do you have an interesting or unique background/education/career path that you’ve parlayed into a successful career as a commercial freelancer? I’d like to hear it. For ideas of what I’m looking for, see Appendix B of Back For Seconds or click here. 2) Part-Time Business Start-up Stories: Approx. 600-900 words. Did you start your business on a part-time basis and eventually transition to full-time? I’d love to hear how you did it. For examples, see Chapter Nine (p. 145) of Back For Seconds or click here. 3) Small-Market Business Start-up Stories: Approx. 600-900 words. Have you built a successful commercial writing business while living in a smaller market (approx. 100K population or less) or a small town/rural area – drawing from your immediate area OR branching out geographically into larger markets? Talk to me. For examples, see Chapter Eight (p. 131) of Back For Seconds or click here. 4) At-Home-Mom (AHM) Business Building Stories: Approx. 800-1200 words. Did you build your copywriting business in whole or part as an At-Home-Mom? Perhaps you transitioned from FT 9-5 job to working at home (and maybe leveraged your career/industry experience to land work)? An always-AHM who built a successful commercial writing practice? Unlike the above categories (where I'm looking for full-timers), it's fine to be doing your writing biz part-time, as long as your hourly rates meet (or come close to) the guidelines below. 5) University/College Writing: Have you built a business in whole or part around landing well-paying marketing writing work through a university, and at a $50 hourly rate. Do tell. 6) GREAT Miscellaneous Stories: Have a great story that doesn’t quite fit into any of the above categories? Let’s hear it! 7) Your Web Site: Got a good web site for your commercial writing biz? Want it to appear as part of a list in the web site chapter of the new book? Send me the link along with your name, city, and state (or city and country if int'l...). IF YOUR STORY’S A FIT FOR ANY OF THE ABOVE… Contact me at peter@wellfedwriter.com with a brief 1-2 paragraph synopsis. Do NOT submit finished pieces until you’ve gotten the green light from me!
NOTE: PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING ANYTHING! If your story is selected, it may appear in the book OR at a special link on my web site (due to limited space in the book). In either case, there will be no pay involved, but you will be part of a pretty cool project: the updated edition of an industry “standard.” You will also receive two free copies of the final edition and up to 10 additional copies at 50% off retail. I’m ONLY interested in success stories from the commercial writing field, NOT magazine writing, fiction, short stories, screenwriting, playwriting, poetry, technical writing, etc. NO EXCEPTIONS! By “success story,” I mean establishing a solid practice writing for businesses and for hourly rates of at least $50 an hour, on up to $125 or more). Hope to hear from you!
